Group Aim

The aim of Friendships Groups is to enable friendships to be built
in a community setting, such as a pub or a café.

Benefits of Friendship Groups

Evaluation of the groups has revealed that the benefits of belonging, according to group members, includes:
  • Experiencing an understanding between one another
  • Feeling a sense of belonging
  • Growing in confidence
  • Enjoying a lightness and having fun ( without focus on mental health issues )
  • Taking ownership choice, control and responsibility for the group
  • Forming friendships
  • Finding a safe space to be themselves

Friendship Groups respond to the fact that:
  • Experiencing difficulties with mental health can result in isolation.
  • Friendship is a fundamental part of life and we were not created to be alone.
" ..you know that they're in the same boat, they understand the whole thing 'cos they've experienced it. They do understand you."
