Group Aim
The aim of Friendships Groups is to enable friendships to be built in a community setting, such as a pub or a café.
Benefits of Friendship Groups
Evaluation of the groups has revealed that the benefits of belonging, according to group members, includes:
- Experiencing an understanding between one another
- Feeling a sense of belonging
- Growing in confidence
- Enjoying a lightness and having fun ( without focus on mental health issues )
- Taking ownership choice, control and responsibility for the group
- Forming friendships
- Finding a safe space to be themselves
Friendship Groups respond to the fact that:
- Experiencing difficulties with mental health can result in isolation.
- Friendship is a fundamental part of life and we were not created to be alone.
